Traditional Arts in Upstate New York (TAUNY) is seeking an outgoing, service-oriented individual to be part of the organization’s North Country Folkstore team. TAUNY is a non-profit organization that explores, honors, and celebrates the diverse cultures, skills, and crafts of everyday life in New York’s North Country. TAUNY’s home is The TAUNY Center, a restored historic building on the Main St. of Canton, NY. TAUNY offers exhibits, programs and services throughout the North Country. The North Country Folkstore in The TAUNY Center sells the work of nearly 200 North Country artists, artisans, and small-scale producers. TAUNY is seeking a part-time associate to work in the North Country Folkstore. The Folkstore is open year-round Monday-Friday 10-5, Saturday 10-4, with extended hours in November and December. Interested parties must be willing to work some weekend shifts. Hours worked will average 12-20 hours, over 3-4 shifts.
Folkstore Associates are members of a team responsible for welcoming visitors to The TAUNY Center, providing customer service in the retail operation, and interacting with the artists and producers whose work is sold in the Folkstore. This is an hourly position that pays $12.50/hour to start.
Specific tasks include:
Greeting visitors to The TAUNY Center and orienting them to The TAUNY Center.
Answering questions about products in the Folkstore.
Handling sales transactions. Comfort with technology is necessary.
Receiving inventory into the Folkstore’s Point of Sale System.
Processing and shipping online orders.
Attending periodic staff meetings and participating in ongoing activities at TAUNY. This may include taking on additional responsibilities as need arises.
